Is it Ok to Lie?
As children, it is drummed into their heads "DO NOT LIE". Even if a child learns this, they still will tell a lie at least once in their lives. Most of the time people--including adults-- can get in trouble if they lie however, it is done almost everyday. So is it okay to lie? This is a touchy question. Any person responding to this is either for lying or against it. It is nearly impossible to have a legitimate reason to believe in both at once.
This deduction leads me to believe that lying is wrong. Lying is wrong because it is impossible to draw a line on when it becomes bad. Whether you're lying to a kid about the tooth fairy, or an adult lying about cheating on his wife, there is no measurement on how serious both these lies are. We only assume one is worse because we believe it is. Many people think its wrong to tell a child that Santa Claus is not real, yet these people are the same people that get mad if they have been lied to. It is all based on personal preference. Since there is absolutely no science or reasoning behind lying, a world where lying is encouraged would result in anarchy. In short, a world with lying can lead to anarchy where a world without lying is more stable and predicable. Because of this, I believe that lying is wrong.
